Still Life

Le Corbusier’s 1920’s works can be defined as the works of Purism, still life of simple geometric forms. He would go on to drawing human figures, particularly women, but still true to the geometric composition of the former. This piece was initiated in 1923 but was kept in his studio for many years, continuously worked on. Pigments are physically layered on top of one another, the top being much different from the bottom. Perhaps the composition itself could have been altogether different. After three decades, this work was deemed tentatively completed.
