Circus, A Woman and a Horse

An athlete wraps her arm around a hose, depicted as if a chess piece, and holds its rein. The woman, without hair or facial expression, portrayed almost like a mechanical robot. At the time, Le Corbusier visited Moscow, and it is believed that this is an impression of the circus show he had watched. In fact, at the back of this piece is an inscription of “Moscow.” The touch of shadows resembles that of Uccello’s Battaglia di San Romano.
